[[Mrs. Julia Devereux Hanson, 87, of 20 Union Ave:, formerly
active in civic and political affairs, especially during the1930s, died Saturday in Westledge Nursing Home in Peekskill after a long illness.
In August 1936 Mrs. Hanson was named by then President
Roosevelt one of nine members of the New York State Recovery
Board and in 1937 she wa named vice president of the Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority.
Born Oct. 31, 1881 in Deposit, the daughter of Alvin and Isabel
Judson Devereux, she attended Ossining Seminary where she
majored in music. After graduation she taught at the Park Hill School. She was married in 1905 to Willis T. Hanson Jr., who survives.
Besides her husband, survivors are a daughter, Mrs. William
Aydelotte of Schenectady; three grandchildren, Mrs. Gordon L. Mills and George Thomas Aydelotte of New York City and William Hanson Aydelotte of San Francisco; two greatgrandchildren. Julia, and Thomas Mills, and a cousin, Mrs.
Harry B. Snell of Deposit.
Her civic and political positions included Schenectady County chairman of the Women's Organizational for National
Prohibition Reform; first vice president of the Schenectady
Committee of 100, slate chairman of the Independent Coalltion of American Women and state chairman of Women for Wendell Willkie.
Mrs. Hanson was a member of First Presbyterian Church
and Mohawk Golf Club.
Private funeral services will be held tomorrow at First Presbyterian
Church, Peekskill. Burial will be in Schenectady.
