Olive Lillian Lookabill, 84, of International Falls, died at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, Minn., Dec. 25, 2006.
Born Olive Lillian Hoard, Sept. 19, 1922, in Emo, Ontario, Canada, Olive was united in marriage to Dale Lookabill on June 9, 1943, and came to live in International Falls, where they made a home and family.
Olive became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1965.
Olive loved going deer and partridge hunting, and fishing with her husband; and Dale and Olive enjoyed many summers on Rainy and Black Bay Lakes or camping in Atikoken, Ontario, with their family and relatives.
Olive was known for her talents in the kitchen. Her daughters have many fond memories of the beautiful Christmas cookies their mom made for them when they were growing up.
Olive loved her family deeply, was always fun to be around, loved to laugh and loved to entertain. Anything that came out of Olive's kitchen was hungrily anticipated by all their many friends and family. She was kind and nurturing and always quick to respond to those in need with a homemade casserole and her memorable baked goods.
Olive and Dale opened their hearts and home to many foster children over the years, some being newborns, toddlers, some abused and neglected found loving attentions and gentle care in the Lookabill home.
Olive was also a wonderful homemaker. Her home was always a warm, welcoming place. She was also an amazing seamstress making most of her girls' clothes when they were young and they were always dressed like dolls. She was also known to stay up most of the night sewing doll clothes which are still used by some of her great-granddaughters.
Olive was preceded in death by her husband Dale on May 14, 2005.
She is survived by, and will be deeply missed by her son Lawrence Lookabill of Brainerd, Minn.; daughters, Dianne (Bob) Michalicek of Thief River Falls, Alice Johnson, Rochester, and Brenda (Phil) Bunde of Wells, Minn.; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Evangelical Covenant Church, International Falls, where Dale and Olive were baptized and faithful members for over 50 years. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Condolences may be left at www.greenlarsen.com . Arrangements are with Green-Larsen Mortuary Inc., International Falls.
