    Sylvia V. Summers, 87, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Saturday, February 6th at ManorCare, Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hughie A. Summers. She was born on April 27, 1922 in Centre County, the daughter of the late John and Sarah Hoar. She lived in Lewistown before moving to Elizabethtown in 1975 to be near her family. Sylvia was a homemaker and she enjoyed her grandchildren, embroidery and playing Bingo. She attended Faith Bible Church. She is survived by her 4 children, Sandra (Freed) (Raymond) Leach, Elizabethtown, Donald H. Summers, Lititz, James E. (Pamela) Summers, Bainbridge, Dannie W. (Carol) Summers, Elizabethtown; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and a sister, Josephine Johnson, Milroy. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Summers; 5 brothers; 1 sister; and 2 granddaughters.

    Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Sylvia's Life Celebration Services from Boyer Funeral Home, 144 E. High St., Elizabethtown on Thursday, Feb. 11th at 7:00 p.m. and also on Friday, Feb. 12th at Milroy U.M. Church, 91 S. Main St., Milroy at 1:00 p.m. Interment in the Milroy Cemetery. Friends may call at the Boyer Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and also on Friday at the church from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Please omit flowers.     LEWISTOWN ? William N. Hoar, 83, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home and formerly of 45 Upper Glen Drive, Lewistown, died at 3:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at the nursing home. Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Centre County, he was a son of the late Plummer and Bessie (Hackenberry) Hoar and raised by his late paternal aunt, Annie Jordan, who died in 1967. His wife, Betty A. (Smith) Hoar, preceded him in death on April 28, 2004.
    Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Bernie (Deena) Zook, of 45 Upper Glen Drive, Lewistown.
    Also surviving are grandchildren Jason Zook, of Burnham, Kristin Zook, of Lewistown, and Ronald Hoar Jr., of Pittsburgh, and four great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald M. Hoar Sr., in 1987, and a brother, Harold Hoar. He was employed at the Arrow Shirt Factory, Lewistown, International Postal Supply and last in maintenance at F.W. Black's Hospital, retiring due to disability in 1977.
    He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
    A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Juniata Memorial Park Chapel with the Rev. Gary A. Roth officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
    In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorials be made to Mifflin-Juniata American Cancer Society, 342 S. Logan Blvd., Burnham, PA 17009.

    Virginia "Ginny" Gilleland, 68, formerly of Des Moines, died Saturday, July 8, 2006 at her home in Ellston. Please join her family for a casual memorial gathering from 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Capitol City Baptist Church, 5990 NE 14th Street. Per her wishes, she will be cremated with a private burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

    Ginny was born in Burnham, PA, April 2, 1938, the daughter of Darlington and Cathrine Hoar. She had lived in Iowa for 45 years. Ginny worked at Dahl's for several years and owned Ginny's Restaurant on Lower Beaver. She also owned The Old Fashioned Lemonade stand at the Iowa State Fair for 29 years. In 1994 she sold her home in Des Moines and moved permanently to Ellston. Ginny enjoyed hummingbirds, spending time with her grandchildren, and doll collecting.

    Ginny is survived by her children, Jon (Betty) Wagner of Savannah, GA, Pat (Carla) Foley and Heidi Gilleland (Reynold Gogel); step-children, Pam Scheel (Bud Stout) and Lynn (Carrie) Gilleland all of Des Moines; brother, John (Nancy) Hoar of Warner Robbins, GA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; son Martin; step-son, Marvin E. and grandson Justin Gilleland.

    LEWISTOWN - Judy A. Fye, 65, of 16 Sunflower Lane, Lewistown, died at 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at her residence.
    Born Oct. 24, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Catherine (Laird) and Darlington S. Hoar.
    She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Fye, Sr., whom she married on June 20, 1964.
    Judy is also survived by her children, Charlet A. Fye, of Georgia, and Robert W. Fye Jr. and Cindy, of Lewistown; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, John Hoar and Nancy, of Georgia and Paul Hoar and aunt, Josephine Thompson.

    LEWISTOWN '97 Barbara Jean Snook, 79, of 672 Dry Valley Road, Lewistown, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2007, at her residence.
    Born June 21, 1927, in Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Smith) Hoar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph D. Snook, in 1966.
    She is survived by her daughters, Charlene Rush, and her companion, James Cherry Jr., of Granville, and Tina Reed and her husband, Jeffery, of Lewistown; grandchildren, David Rush, Christopher Rush and Ryan Reed; five great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers Joseph N. Hoar, of Sanford, N.C., John I. Hoar, of Vira, Norma L. Shepherd, of Lewistown; a half-sister, Lois Kuhns, of Barrville.
    She was preceded in death by a half-brother, Ronald McKinley.
    She was employed as a production employee in the polyester department of the American Viscose Corp. and later at Avtex Fibers for 26 years, retiring in 1992.
    She was a member of the Grace Covenant Church in Lewistown; Lewistown Moose Lodge, Women of the Moose Auxiliary and VFW No. 9103 in Spring Lake, N.C.
    Her funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing. Private interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

    SANFORD - Retired Army Staff Sgt. Joseph Nelson Hoar Jr., 80, of Sanford, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010. He was born and raised in Burnham, Pa., Sept. 30, 1930. He entered the Army on Aug. 11, 1949, and was a highly decorated veteran, serving in both the Vietnam and Korean wars, earning numerous awards for his valor. He served his country for 23 years, retiring on Feb. 1, 1972, from the 612th Quartermaster Company of Fort Bragg. Amongst other things, he served as canteen manager at the VFW Post 9103 for seven years and was a lifetime member. He then was employed as a mail distribution clerk at Fort Bragg FTCC for five years, until his final retirement in 1993. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Nelson Hoar; his mother, Mary Elizabeth Hoar; and a sister, Barbara Snook. He is survived by his wife, Elva A. Hoar of the home; daughter, Irene Snook Smithwick; two stepsons; sister, Norma Shepherd of Lewistown, Pa.; brother, Johnny Hoar; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grandson, Joseph Smithwick and wife Heidi Smithwick; grandson, Patrick Smithwick and wife Tammy Smithwick; granddaughter, Crystal Smithwick Sutton and husband Danny Sutton; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Adcock Funeral Home & Crematory in Spring Lake from 6 to 8 tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010. Graveside services will take place at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at noon.     CALVIN HOAR CAPT. USMC - RETIRED - PORT ST. JOHN - Calvin Hoar, after valiantly fighting a long time military related illness, went home to be with Our Lord on Sunday, December 28, 2008. A former U.S. Marine combat photographer and photojournalist during the Vietnam conflict, he was exposed to Agent Orange. Enlisting at the age of 18, Captain Hoar was proud of his service and the many accomplishments throughout his military career. He enjoyed being able to maintain close contact with former military buddies in several states. Following military retirement, he was employed as a builder salesman for Scotty's, Cocoa and enjoyed hobbies including: coin collecting, golfing, and flying radio controlled airplanes, In addition to photography, he was an avid space enthusiast who regularly distributed mission specific commemorative coins to viewers of Shuttle launches at Nicol Park in Port St. John. Calvin was a devoted husband to beloved wife of forty- seven years, Carol (Warner); father to son, Doug (Kimberly); daughters, Stacey Reinmund (Michael), Cheryl Wellington; adopted daughter, Kristina Johnson; five grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Charles Hoar; sister, Judy McPherson; and mother-in-law, Margaret Babb.
