#43 JAMES was a freeman (in Middletown, RI) in 1722, Member of the Town Council 1743-66, in 1758 was deputed to enlist soldiers, the old tenor bills issued in 1750, called 9th Bank, were redeemed in 1764, opposed by James in rhyming protest.

He married 21 Jan 1724 Mary, dau. of William and Mary (Tew) Peckham. b. 7 Sept 1704; d. 12 June 1728; mar (2) ---- 1730 Margaret, dau. Jeremiah and Mary (Clark) Weeden. b. 1701; d. 8 May 1785.

James married Margaret Clarke Weeden in 1730 in Middletown,,RI. Margaret (daughter of Jeremiah Weeden and Mary Clarke) was born in 1701 in of Middletown, Newport, RI; died on 08 May 1785 in RI. [Group Sheet]

# 89 John was a barber and served as a private in Captain David Wheeler's Co., Col. John Brown's Reg. in 1777. He moved to Lanesboro, MA in 1733 with his brother John where they both had fine farms. In 1786, he was moving to Killington, VT when he died on the journey. He married --- 1755 Lucretia Newhall, dau. of Samuel and Martha (Upham) Newhall. b. 2 Jan 1739, d. --- , m (2) Jessie Mason.

All children were born in Lanesboro. Margaret was the 6th child of 12.

John married Lucretia Newhall Newell in 1755 in Middletown,,RI. Lucretia (daughter of Samuel Newhall and Martha Upham) was born on 02 Jan 1739 in Middletown, Newport, RI. [Group Sheet]

Margaret married Rufus Carpenter on 14 Mar 1786 in Lanesboro,, MA. Rufus (son of Stephen Carpenter and Amy Field) was born on 13 Mar 1764 in Providence,RI??; died on 03 Jul 1837 in Cheshire, Berkshire Co, MA. [Group Sheet]

Notes from James Helms Lincoln, quoted from his father, Burr Buchanan Lincoln (grandson of Milton Lincoln).

My father (Burr B. Lincoln) said the Lincolns came from Connecticut. He listed his grandfather, Milton Lincoln, as being born in "Lanesborough." (No state after his name.) There does not appear to be a Lanesborough in Connecticut. There is a "Lanesville" in Connecticut. My father may have been in error on the name of the town. However, Sarah Carpenter, the wife of Milton, is listed as being born in Cheshire, Connecticut, on April 2, 1800. There is a Cheshire, CT. The records there, or in the County Court House, might give the address of Milton, if they were married in Cheshire. There is a good chance that they would have been married in the bride's home.

Notes from LDS library: Sarah Carpenter is listed as a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ithaca, NY, 1821.

Milton Lincoln is listed as head of the family with wife and one daughter.

1850-- New York, Thompkins County, Groton.
Milton Lincoln, age 54 - farmer; does not list Sarah (his wife).
Six children - Edgar, age 7, is youngest.
