    Verda F. (LaFlamme) Hoar, 72, of this city, died Wednesday at home. She was a waitress for many years at the former Log Cabin Restaurant. She worked in the computer lab at Holyoke Community College for several years. Born and educated here, she was a graduate of Holyoke High School and Holyoke Community College. She was a member of the local 4-H Club for many years and the Morgan Horse Association. She leaves her husband, John J. Hoar Jr.; three sons, John J. III and Jeffrey A. Hoar, both of Easthampton, and Michael A. Hoar of Holyoke; six daughters, Verda F. Hess and Maria A. O'Brien, both of Chicopee, Pamela J. Bergeron of Holyoke, Jo-Anne T. Dennis of Belchertown, Jacquelyn Pitoniak of Huntington and Jennifer Wilda of Southampton; a brother, Lester LaFlamme of Holyoke; a sister, Joan T. Hogan of Titusville, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday morning at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, with burial in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday late afternoon through early evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Lifecare, P.O. Box 10428, Holyoke, MA 01041, or the American Cancer Society, 31 Capital Drive, West Springfield, MA 01089.

    1956-2008
    HOLYOKE - Michael Andrew Hoar, of Holyoke, was called safely home after a courageous battle with complications stemming from a bone marrow transplant. He was surrounded by his family at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He worked for the past 9 years at U.S. Tsubaki, where he was active in the local Steelworkers Union, serving as Vice-President. He was an avid New England sports fan, never missing a Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, or Celtics game. He also served in the United States Army from 1974 to 1978. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the medical staff at Mass General Hospital, Holyoke Medical Center, and all who participated in Michael's care. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kathryn (Judd) Hoar, his children: Krystal and her husband Jorge Ayala of Westfield, Kathryn and her wife Erika Diaz of Holyoke, and GM1 Michael Hoar, stationed with the Navy in Groton CT, two brothers: John of Easthampton and Jeffrey of Easthampton, six sisters: Verda Hess of Westfield, Maria O'Brien of Chicopee, Pamela Bergeron of Holyoke Joanne Dennis of Chicopee, Jacquelyn Pitoniak of Huntington, and Jennifer Wilda of Holyoke, 14 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, as well as several nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, aunts and uncles. Michael was predeceased by his parents, John and Verda (LaFlamme) Hoar and a niece Tanya Dennis. A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 11:30 in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be held Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Michael's name to the Bone Marrow Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, C/O Dr. Karen Ballen, Emerson Place, Boston MA 02114.

    CHICOPEE - Tanya E. Dennis, 23, died suddenly on Sunday September 30, 2007, in Maryland, as the result of an automobile accident. She was born in Holyoke on March 19, 1984, to Robert W. Dennis Jr. of Hudson, Fl, and Jo-Anne Dennis of Chicopee. Tanya attended local schools and graduated from Pathfinder Regional High School in 2002, where she enjoyed playing basketball, soccer and softball. Tanya had a special love for horses. She had previously worked for the Mt. Holyoke Equestrian Center and Fox Meadow Farm, she was currently working as a Horse Trainer at the Otasaga Farm in Maryland. Tanya had also previously worked for Hawley's Restaurant. Besides her parents, Tanya will be sadly missed by one brother Robert J. Dennis and his wife Jamie of New Jersey; one sister Carissa M. Dennis of Chicopee; her paternal grandfather, Robert W. Dennis Sr. of Springfield; her maternal grandfather John J. Hoar Jr. of Holyoke; one goddaughter Kasandra L. Wilda of Holyoke; a very good friend Elisabeth D'Agosto of Maryland; a very special "father figure", John H. Roberts of Belchertown and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Tanya will also be missed by her horse, Whisper Dee and her canine friend, Sargeant. She was pre-deceased by her paternal grandmother Blossom A. Dennis and her maternal grandmother Verda F. Hoar. There will be a funeral mass at a later date, the day and time will be announced. Calling hours will be Thursday October 4, 2007 form 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Brunelle Funeral Home, 811 Chicopee St., Chicopee. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tanya's memory to either the German Shepherd Rescue and Adoptions, P.O. Box 8034, Greensboro, N.C. 27419 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA., 01701.
