Levering Pioneer Passed Thursday. Pneumonia Fatal To Geo. Schmalzried; Homesteaded 160-Acre Tract. John Conrad Schmalzried, a wagonmaker of Wurtemberg, Germany, came to America when he was twenty-five and took up the work of a carpenter in the carpenter shops of Adrian. He married Anna Heist of Schwartzwald, Germany. To this union were born eight children, George Schmalzried being the fifth child. George Schmalzried was born in Adrian on November 3, 1861. George Schmalzried married Elizabeth Hoar of Canby and moved to his own farm. To this union 6 children were born, three having preceded their father in death. Surviving are Mrs. W. Dale Robinson, Mrs. Morton Pangborn, Lyle Schmalzried. Mr. Schmalzried has been township treasurer, school director, and a member of the board of review.
