Mary H. (Hoar) Curran, 79, of 142 Oregon St., Springfield, a former city policewoman, died on Tuesday in a local nursing home.
She had also been a social worker for the Springfield Welfare Department.
Born in Springfield, she attended local schools, and was graduated from the High School of Commerce. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Church.
Her husband, William T. Curran, died in 1983.
She leaves two sons, William M. of Binghamton, N.Y. and Michael T. of Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, M. Susan Haussler of Londonderry, N.H., and Anne C. Curran of Agawam; two brothers, Maurice "Bunty" and Edmund Hoar of Springfield, and four grandchildren.
She was also the sister of Thomas P. Hoar, who died last March.
The funeral will be Friday morning at T.P. Sampson Co. Liberty Street Parlors, and in the church. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Deceased Name: Thomas L. Hoar, served 27 years as city firefighter
Thomas L. Hoar, 77, of 1110 Liberty St., Springfield a retired 27-year member of the Springfield Fire Department, died Saturday in Baystate Medical Center.
He had been assigned to the Armory Street and East Springfield firehouses and retired in 1968.
After retiring, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 10 years. He retired from there in 1978.
A lifelong resident of Springfield, he graduated from the former Springfield Trade High School and played semi-professional baseball for the former Springfield Acorns and the Liberty Ice & Fuel team. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church and a member of the John Boyle O'Reilly Club, American Legion Post 430, and the Springfield Firefighter's Private's Club.
He leaves his wife, the former Anna Foley; two sons, John J. of Springfield and Thomas M. of Chicopee; two brothers, Maurice "Bunty" and Edmund; a sister, Mary Curran, all of Springfield, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday morning at T.P. Sampson Co., Liberty Street parlors and in the church with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are this evening and tomorrow afternoon and evening.

SPRINGFIELD - Maurice J. "Bunty" Hoar, 85, of Springfield died Wednesday May 25, 2005 in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield. Maurice was a fire fighter for the City of Springfield stationed at the Armory Street Station Ladder Truck 9. He retired after more than 30 years of service. Born in Springfield on September 10, 1919 he was the son of the late Maurice J. Hoar Sr. and Mary (Kennedy) Hoar. He was a graduate of Commerce High School, a life long resident of Hungry Hill, and communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church. He served his country during W.W. II with the United States Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. He saw action in the Rhineland, Central Europe, Algeria French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, and Southern France, He received The European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Croix de Guerre with Palm OD, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the W. W.II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Privates Club, the Springfield Fire Fighters Retirement Club, and a Charter member of the American Legion Post 430 of Springfield. Besides his parents he was predeceased by 2 brothers, Thomas Hoar and Edmund Hoar, and 2 sisters, Lillian Hoar and Mary Curran. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen "Babe" (Leonard) Hoar; 2 sons, Kevin J. Hoar and his wife Maryann of Springfield and Brendon P. Hoar of Springfield; a daughter, Kathy Hoar Fleury and her husband Donald of Springfield; his grandchildren, Kevin and Kara; along with several nieces and nephews. Maurice's funeral will be Friday morning 8:45 a.m. at Sampson's Funeral Home 710 Liberty Street Springfield. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Church, Carew Street, Springfield. Burial in St. Michael's Cemetery, State Street, Springfield. Visiting hours are Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope Church 577 Carew Street Springfield, MA 01104.

SPRINGFIELD - Edmund J. Hoar, 78, of 81 Dorset St., a longtime city firefighter died Friday in Mercy Medical Center.
He was a 30-year firefighter for the Springfield Fire Department and retired in 1985. He worked in the Winchester Square Station, the North Main Street Station, the Pine Street Station and retired from the Sumner Avenue Station.
Edmund J. Hoar, 78, of 81 Dorset St., a longtime city firefighter died Friday in Mercy Medical Center.
He was a 30-year firefighter for the Springfield Fire Department and retired in 1985. He worked in the Winchester Square Station, the North Main Street Station, the Pine Street Station and retired from the Sumner Avenue Station.
Born in Springfield, he was a lifelong resident and a graduate of the former Technical High School. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council, 2212 of West Springfield and the John Boyle O'Reilly Club of Springfield.
He was a Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and served as a technical sergeant. He served in northern France, Ardennes, central Europe and the Rhineland. He received the Air Metal with four oak leaf clusters and the European-African-Middle East Theater Campaign Ribbon.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, the former Mary E. Ferriter; two sons, James E. of East Longmeadow and John M. of Pembroke; a daughter, Ann Alfieri of Springfield; a brother, Maurice of Springfield; and four grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Monday morning at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home of East Longmeadow and in the Holy Name Church, with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours are late this afternoon into the evening. John J. Hoar 1943 - 2006 SPRINGFIELD - John J. "Jack" Hoar, 63, of Springfield passed away on Sunday November 19, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Springfield on February 22, 1943 a son of the late Thomas P. and Anna M. (Foley) Hoar and was raised in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield. He was a graduate of Our Lady of Hope Elementary School in Springfield and was a graduate of Cathedral High School Class of 1961 where he and his brother Tom were elected to the All-Western Mass Hockey Team. Jack was employed for 34 years with the former Western Mass Electric, currently known as Northeast Utilities, and retired in July of 2000. He was an avid golfer and a member of Ludlow Country Club, was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield, and was an active member of the Local Union # 53 Stagehands. He was a former coach for many years with the Springfield Youth Hockey Association, and the Holy Cross Church's Baseball Team, and a member of the former Skip McCarthy Softball League for 25 years. Jack was very proud of his Irish heritage and for more than 30 years could be seen painting shamrocks all over the City of Springfield in the many driveways of his friends' homes during the weeks prior to St. Patrick's Day. Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Patricia A. (Thompson) Hoar; his loving children, Colleen M. Wysocki and her husband Bill of Agawam, Catie M. Karlskind of East Longmeadow, John M. Hoar and his wife Tiffany of Ludlow, and Brian P. Hoar and his wife Karen of Springfield; his best friend and twin brother, Thomas M. Hoar and his wife Eileen of Chicopee; his dear mother in law, Margaret V. (Lynch) Thompson of West Springfield; and his eight grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Papa Jack" and were the greatest joys of his life, Billy, Caroline, Allie, and Marykate Wysocki, Jack and Ryan Karlskind, and Brenna and Regan Hoar. He also leaves several aunts and uncles as well as three nephews and two nieces including his godson, Matthew M. Hoar of Chicopee. His funeral will be held on Saturday November 25th at 8:15 a.m. from the Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, with Rites of Committal to conclude in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, all in Springfield. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday November 24th from 3 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made in Jack's memory to the Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.
