    William F. Maloney Jr., 73, of Woonsocket, died July 15. He was the loving husband of the late Cheryl Linda (Hoar) Maloney. Born March 22, 1934, in Woonsocket, a son of the late William F. and Elizabeth (Goulet) Maloney, he was a 1953 graduate of Woonsocket High School and attended Hill College. He worked at the USPFO as chief pay supervisor for the Rhode Island National Guard. He joined the Air Force in 1953, serving as an airman in Korea and Japan until 1957, and was on flight status downrange of the first missile program at Cape Canaveral, Fla. He reenlisted in 1958 and served as electronics controller for the Manned Space Flight Program in Florida and various locations around the world, retiring in 1962. In 1976 he joined the 1118th Engineer Company, Rhode Island National Guard. During Operation Desert Storm and Desert Storm, he played an integral part in supporting the families of area soldiers. On the day he retired, Sept. 30, 1991, Gov. Bruce Sundlun named that day Master Sergeant William F. Maloney Day. He was the recipient of the National Guard Certificate of Service in recognition of 20 years of service, the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a member of Cercle Laurier and the Italian Working Men's Club in Woonsocket. He was an avid New York Yankees fan. He leaves a daughter, Erin Maloney of Woonsocket; a sister, Nancy Roy of North Smithfield; three granddaughters, Brittany, Karissah and Cherylind; and many nieces and nephews.

    William married Cheryl Hoar. Cheryl was born on 21 Jul 1945 in Woonsocket, Providence Co, Rhode Island, USA; died on 10 Jul 1993. [Group Sheet]
