Harriet M. (Hoar) Donahue, 78, of this city, died Sunday at an area nursing home. She worked at the former Springfield Armory and was a longtime dietician at the Buckley Nursing Home and the Holyoke Soldiers' Home. She retired in 1982. Born here, she was a Holyoke High School graduate. Her husband, William J. Donahue, died in 1987. She leaves three daughters, Maureen A. Stone of Chicopee, Joanne M. Hopkinson of Clearwater, Fla., and Kathleen Donahue of Braintree; two sisters, Carol Hano of South Hadley and Barbara Mulvaney of the Florence section of Northampton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday morning at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home and Sacred Heart Church, with burial in Forestdale Cemetery. Calling hours are late Wednesday afternoon through the early evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 11 Campus Lane, Easthampton, MA 01027, or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032.

Carol H. Hano 1925 - 2012 SOUTH HADLEY - Carol (Hoar) Hano, 86, of South Hadley, died on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Birch Manor in Chicopee. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Brogle) Hoar and was a 1944 graduate of Holyoke High School. Carol enjoyed traveling, music, and was an avid reader. She traveled extensively in Europe, especially Spain, where she spent many winter months. Carol enjoyed spending her summers at the beach in Ogunquit Maine. Her favorite times were family gatherings and time spent with her family in Texas. Carol was truly a generous person, and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. She was never a person to ask for help, only to offer it. Her husband, Robert Hano, passed away in December of 1972. Carol is survived by her children: Carol L. Libin and her husband Michael of Lexington MA, Donna T. McCloud and her husband Linwood of South Hadley, and Robert H. Thompson and his wife Jennifer of Midland Texas, her cherished grandchildren: Sara Libin, Alyssa Foltz, Lindsay Clarke, and Robert, Emma and Benjamin Thompson, her precious great grandchildren, Jonathan and Olivia Foltz, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 9:00 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass in Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church at 10:00. Burial will be in Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Birch Manor Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center Activity Fund, 44 New Lombard Road, Chicopee MA 01020. Carol's family would like to thank the staff at Birch Manor and New England Hospice for all the care, comfort and support shown to Carol during these past few months.

FLORENCE - Barbara A. (Hoar) Mulvaney, 73, of 23 Grandview St., died Tuesday at the Linda Manor Nursing Home in Leeds. Born in Holyoke October 26, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Brogle) Hoar. She was educated in Holyoke schools and was a 1947 graduate of Holyoke High School. She later graduated from the former Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing. She was a nurse at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for many years, retiring in 1973. She was a communicant of Annunciation Church in Florence. She loved flowers and walking. She is survived by her husband, S. Donald Mulvaney; 2 sons, Stephen Mulvaney of Ithaca, NY and Patrick Mulvaney of Sunderland, MA; a daughter, Susan Mulvaney of Providence, RI; a sister, Carol Hannu of South Hadley; 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Robert Hoar and a sister, Harriet Donahue, died earlier. The funeral will be Thursday morning, 8 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Annunciation Church at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 29 Crafts St., Newton, MA 02458.
