    HAZEL EDNA JOHNSTON Passed away peacefully August 10, 2005, at her home in Redwood City, at the age of 87. Loving wife of the late Earl Johnston Jr. Cherished mother of Robert (Barbara) Johnston of Redwood City. Dear sister of Myron (Joan) Hoar of Lakewood, Calif., Gerald (Jan) Hoar of Springfield, Ore., and the late Velma McDowell, Marvin, Milford and Lowell Hoar. Devoted "grandma" of Cindy Johnston of Redwood City, Roger (Denise) Johnston of San Carlos and Candice (Alex) Ako of Redwood City. Loving grand-aunt of Heidi Ako and numerous other nieces and nephews. Hazel was born November 30, 1917, in Bonesteel, S.D., and was a resident of Redwood City for 70 years. She worked as a waitress for 25 years at Raymar Oaks in Atherton and the Gold Platter in San Carlos. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid orchid grower. Traveling to Hawaii, entertaining family and friends, baking the best cakes and pies in Redwood City, and especially beating her grandkids at cards will be forever memories. Friends may visit Monday from 5 to 8 p.m., and are invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Road, Redwood City. Interment will follow at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo. Memorials in Hazel's name to Pathways Home Care, 201 San Antonio Circle, Mt. View, CA 94040, preferred.
