Deceased Name: Dorthen Roger "Budd" Batchelder, 74
Dorthen Roger "Budd" Batchelder, 74, of Canby Road, Pellston, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Marvin Henderson, in Kinross, Charter Township, following a five-month bout of cancer.
He was born March 29, 1928, in Wheeler, Mich., to William Ellis and Ethel (Hoard) Batchelder. He graduated from Gerrish-Higgins High School in Roscommon, and spent World War II in the U.S. Army serving in Italy.
The family lived in Roscommon until 1956 when they moved to Pellston, living near Douglas Lake and later the Larks Lake area.
Budd retired in 1982 from Camp Pellston, Department of Corrections, as a foreman with 30 years of service.
He was a life member and past commander of Charles M. Engel V.F.W. Post No. 4159, Roscommon. He was also a member of Larks Lake Lions Club and St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Larks Lake, and a member of the NRA.
On Nov. 5, 1949, he married Donna Mae Zettle at Higgins Lake and she died on Oct. 6, 1997.
He is survived by three daughters, Donna (Marvin) Henderson of Kinross, Dawn (Don) Foote of Caledonia, Dorine Sue (Frank) Csapo of Flint; a brother, Wilfred "Bill" Batchelder, of Chickasha, Okla.; a sister, Barbara Joyce (Leo) Hogan of Orange City, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Cal Zettle of Montgomery, Texas, Dean Zettle of Roscommon, and Roger Rasmusson of Roscommon; sisters-in-law, Agnes Smith of Charlotte, and Fran Batchelder of Deland, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Dan (Erika) Henderson, Brian (Tina), Mandy, and Corey White, Deanna, Debra, Dale and Devin Foote, Danielle (Eric) Speers, Desire and Jamie Yell; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Henderson and Samantha White. He was preceded in death by sons, David, Dale, Dennis and Daniel; and a daughter, Delores; a brother, Gordon Batchelder; and a sister, Joan Hogan; and a grandson, Kyle White.
At his request, cremation has taken place and a memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rudyard for the family. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery, Larks Lake.
