Ilmi Heikkila
IRON RIVER - Ilmi Heikkila, 86, of Iron River, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at the Florence Villa Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 4, 1915 in Iron River, the daughter of the late August and Mary Huthala. She attended the former Nash school. Ilmi moved to Chicago where she apprenticed as a tailor and seamstress. She returned to Iron River and worked as a professional seamstress doing custom dress making and apparel alterations. She also did seamstress work for the former Town and Country Store, Irene's Dress Shop and Scott's Smartwear.
Ilmi was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iron River. She was also active in the local senior citizens programs and served on the Senior Citizen Site Council for many years. She married Arthur Hoar and, except for a short time when they lived in Waukesha, Wis., the couple made their home in Iron River. He died in 1972. She later married Arthur Heikkila who also preceded her in death, as did a sister, Ruth.
She is survived by two sons, David Hoar of Iron River and Richard Hoar of Mobile, Ala.; and a cousin, Gertrude Autio.
Friends may call Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Langenberg Funeral Home - Iron River Chapel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Thomas Wickstrom, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Iron River, will officiate. Burial will be in the Resthaven Cemetery. [Section 21, Lt 55...no death date on headstone with husband Arthur J.
