Dr. John Putnam Rowell
Dr. John Putnam Rowell, 92, of Highland Farms Retirement Community, Black Mountain, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005.
A native of Houston, Texas, he was a son of the late George Peters and Diana Mason Putnam Rowell. Dr. Rowell was a major, serving in the Army Medical Corps during Word War II and practiced medicine in St. Petersburg, Fla., for 33 years. He was a fellow of the American College of Physicians and past president of the Pinellas County (Fla.) Medical Society.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years, Jeanne Marie Fontaine Rowell.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Brown Hicks Rowell; two sons, Peter Putnam Rowell (Kathryn) of Louisville, Ky., and Carlton Fontaine Rowell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter, Norma Jean Guinan (Frank) of Tallahassee, Fla.; brother, George Peters Rowell of New York City; five grandchildren, Frances Ann Martindale, Julie Fontaine Rowell, David Putnam Rowell, Cara Parker and Christopher Rowell Tober; and seven great-grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church, of which he was a member, with Father Scott Oxford officiating.
Burial will be held at St. Bartholomew Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Fla.
