The following was published in Biographical Review -- The Leading Citizens of Hampden County, Massachusetts, published in 1895, pages 1109 - 1110:
PATRICK M. SHEA, of Chicopee Falls, Hampden County, Mass., ex-Postmaster and well-known undertaker, was born in County Kerry, Ireland, March 15, 1840. His parents, Maurice and Ellen (Moriarty) Shea, were natives of the same place, where the father followed for a number of years the trade of blacksmith; but in 1849 he came to America, and located in Holyoke, Mass., being there employed for many years by Captain Mack, working, however, at different places as opportunity offered. Maurice Shea lived to be eighty-eight years old and his wife to be sixty-two years of age. They were the parents of six children, named as follows: Johanna, Mary, Ellen, Catherine, Patrick M., and John, all of whom are now living.
Patrick M. was educated in the schools of Holyoke, and worked for a while with his father at the trade of blacksmith. During the early part of the war he was in the employ of the Massachusetts Arms Company, and later at Whitneyville he worked for the Whitneyville Arms Company on guns and at tool forging. After the war he came to Chicopee Falls, and worked in the shops of Belcher & Taylor, and also was in the employ of the Lamb Manufacturing Company and of the J. Stevens Company on fine work. In 1866 Mr. Shea opened a dry-goods store in the village on Bridge Street, which was in successful operation till 1873. He then moved to Main Street, and opened the undertaker's establishment, which he has since conducted, likewise having charge of the Catholic cemetery, selling the lots as required. He has also established a livery, which is the largest in the village. He has erected new stables with office in connection, also boarding stables, and keeps a supply of from fourteen to twenty horses for public use.
In 1861 Mr. Shea was married to Miss Bridget A. Hoar, who was born in County Kerry, Ireland, in August 1840, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Shea) Hoar, of that locality, who became farmers of Chicopee Falls after coming to America. They both lived to advanced age, the father being eighty-six years old at the time of his death, and his wife eighty-eight years. Their family consisted of eleven children, as follows: Johanna, Patrick, Mary, Ellen, Catherine, Elizabeth, Maurice, Thomas, John, Bridget, and Michael, five only of whom are now living. Mr. and Mrs. Shea are the parents of thirteen children, namely: Elizabeth, born in 1862, now wife of William M. Scanlan, civil engineer, living in New York City; Maurice, born 1863; Allen, born 1865; John, born 1867 (these three deceased); Frank J., born 1869; Joseph T., born 1871; Patrick L., born 1873; Michael I., born 1875; Mary R., born 1878; Dorothy, born 1880; Cecelia, born 1883; Theresa C., born 1884; and Ambrose, born 1886 (deceased). Mrs. Shea found time, in addition to the management of her large family, to establish quite a business in dressmaking and millinery, which indicates well the energy of her character and her habits of ceaseless industry.
Mr. Shea is a Democrat in his politics, and takes an active interest in all matters which concern the good government of the village. He is one of the Trustees of the Chicopee Falls Savings Bank, and has served as Postmaster under President Cleveland's first administration. As an enterprising business man and a loyal citizen, he receives the confidence and respect of his neighbors and fellow-townsmen.

Patrick's obituary was published in an unknown newspaper as follows:
      DEATH OF PATRICK M. SHEA
Veteran Undertaker Passes Away From Pneumonia
Patrick M. Shea, 71, a former postmaster of Chicopee Falls, and for 40 years engaged in the undertaking business there, died at his home at 112 Belcher street yesterday morning of pneumonia. He had been critically ill for over a week, but on Saturday and Sunday his condition showed improvement, which, with the fact that he had twice before recovered from very serious attacks of pneumonia, gave his family and friends grounds for hope that he might recover. Mr Shea was born in Gingle, County Kerry, Ireland, March 15, 1839. When he was five years old his parents came to the United States and settled in South Hadley Falls, where his father, Maurice Shea, was employed as a blacksmith. He went to school in that town, and came to Chicopee with his family in 1859. He lived in Chicopee all the rest of his life, with the exception of some months during the civil war, when he worked at making rifles for the government at the Whitneyville armory in New Haven, Ct. Mr Shea's first work in Chicopee was for the Ames manufacturing company and the Belcher & Taylor company, after which he went into a drygoods store. He opened his undertaking business about 40 years ago, and later added to it a livery stable business, both of which he ran up to the time of his death.
Mr Shea was appointed postmaster of Chicopee Falls by President Cleveland in the second year of his first term, and held this office for about five years, when the republican president appointed his successor. Mr Shea was well known by everybody in the Falls, and was esteemed for his substantial character and likable personality. He was an organizer of the Father Mathew temperance society, but of late years had not been a member. He was an early member of the Hibernians, and a member of Elder council, Knights of Columbus. For a number of years he was a trustee of the Chicopee savings bank. Mr Shea was married June 12, 1861, in Chicopee, to Bridget A. Hoar of Chicopee. He is survived by his widow, four sons, Frank J. Shea, Joseph F. Shea, Patrick Shea and Dr Michael I. Shea; five daughters, Mrs W. M. Scanlon of Newark, N. J., Mrs T. J. Riley of New York city, and Miss Mary R. Shea, Miss Cecilia E. Shea and Miss Katherine T. Shea of Chicopee Falls; and a brother, John C. Shea of New Haven, Ct. The funeral will be from Mr Shea's home at 8.45 o'clock Thursday morning. There will be a requiem high mass at St Patrick's church at 9.30 o'clock. The burial will be in St Patrick's cemetery.

Patrick died 25 April 1910 in Chicopee, Hampden County, Massachusetts, and was buried in Chicopee Falls, Hampden County, Massachusetts.

Bridget died 21 November 1919 in Chicopee, Hampden County, Massachusetts, and was buried in Chicopee Falls, Hampden County, Massachusetts.

They both died at 112 Belcher Street and were buried in the Patrick M. Shea family plot, St. Mark Section, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chicopee, Masachusetts.
