LINCOLN - Richard Y. Pedley, 83, husband of the late Marjorie (Deveau) Pedley, passed away Jan. 3, 2011, at Colonial Healthcare, Lincoln. He was born April 10, 1927, in Portland, son of Everett Yates Pedley and Myrtle Louise (Horr) Pedley. Dick graduated from Portland High School in 1944 and at age 17 joined the Seabees just out of high school. He was stationed in Okinawa for 14 months, during which time the Atomic Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. He went to work for National Biscuit Co., in 1948, loading boxcars. From there, he advanced his career with them, more than 37 years, to become one of the top salesmen in the New England states. Dick attained his private pilot's license at a young age and flying was a passion of his. Also he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Fishing trips took him to Alaska, Quebec and Newfoundland. He was a member of the Big Buck Club and went on several moose hunts in recent years with his children. He loved to travel. With his family, he traveled a lot!
      - tenting, clamming, theme parks and trips. As for sports, his favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Mattanawcook Academy Lynx, where he could watch his grandchildren. He died in his sleep surrounded by his children, Michelle and Tyke MacDonald of Lee, Peggy Smith and Robin Sabol, both of Lincoln, and William and Angie Pedley of Hermon. He was very proud of his family, and leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Elaine and Brad Chapman of Gorham; and a brother, Tom and Carol Pedley of Standish. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Marjorie, whom he lovingly cared for through her 12-year battle with Alzheimer's disease, he was predeceased by a son, Richard I. Pedley.
