    • Obituary: News (Frederick, MD) August 27, 1982
      Mrs. NELLIE ALVIRDA LLOYD, 82, Brunswick St., Brunswick, died Thursday, August 26, at Homewood Retirement Center, Frederick. A well known retired teacher, she was the wife of the late Dr. William L. Lloyd, who predeceased her in 1863. Born June 13, 1906, in Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Frank G. and Ida Merryman Hoar.
      She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Brunswick, and was past president and life member of the United Methodist Women. She was a graduate of Brunswick High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education at the University of Maryland. She began her teaching career in a one room school and later taught at Brunswick elementary and high schools. She retired after 42 years of service in 1966.
      She also was a charter member of the Frederick County Teachers Association and a member of the county, state and national Retired Teachers Associations. She was a member of the Inner Wheel of the Potomac Foundation, where she served as president.
      Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Thelma Arnold, a brother-in-law, Daniel Arnold, both of Brunswick; a nephew, Philip G. Arnold, Colorado Springs, Co.; two nieces, Mrs. Sarah Doherty, Springfield, Va.; and Mrs. Miriam Wills, Gaithersburg; two great-nieces and a great-nephew; and a number of cousins.
      Services were held at the First United Methodist Church, Brunswick; arrangements by the John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick; interment was in Knoxville Reformed Cemetery.
