Obituary. Petoskey News-Review, Thurs., Aug. 17, 1995:
Lester H. Orr, 85. Funeral service for Lester H. Orr, 85, of Zephyrhills, Fla., will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at the Church of the Straits in Mackinaw City. The Rev. Charles Hastie will officiate. A Masonic memorial service, under the auspices of Pellston Lodge F. & A.M., will be held in conjunction with the funeral service. Interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Mackinaw City. Mr. Orr died Aug. 14, 1995, at his home in Zephyrhills, Fla. He was born July 16, 1910, in Levering, the son of William and Hattie (Gere) Hoar. He married Bernice A. Sommer on Oct. 25, 1932, in Mackinaw City. Mr. Orr worked on the state ferries and sailed the Great Lakes in his younger years. Later, he moved to Midland where he was employed as an electrical enginerr for Dow Chemical Co., retiring in 1974. Since 1969, Mr. and Mrs. Hoar spent summers at their home in Carp Lake, and winters at their home in Zephyrhills, Fla. Mr. Orr was a member of the Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. in Midland, and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife, Bernice; one son, Robert Dean Orr, of Chicago; two daughters, Dorla J. Western of Rochester Hills, and Beverly Orr of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Orr, of Whitehall. The family will receive callers 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today, Aug. 17, at the Nordman Funeral Home in Cheboygan.
