      Hi Folks,

You're e-mail did come through. I'm just a little late in getting to all of it. I had something like 165 e-mails waiting for me, many of them not worth bothering with, just a bunch of adds, etc.

It sounds like you have a real interest in family history. So here goes.

Virgil Luman Horr married Marion Newcomb. (Marion was an only child.) They had 9 children. My father, Everard Lincoln Horr was the oldest. He married Charlotte Lucy Goodwin and had two children Nancy and Richard. They later divorced and Everard married Debbie. (Her real name is Claudette but went by Debbie.) They had one child Linwood Horr (my half brother.) Debbie had a daughter, Erika that Everard adopted. Now that my dad is gone I don't really have any contact with Debbie, Lenny or Erika. I do occasionally receive a Christmas card from Erika. (She goes by the name of Ricki.) My father, Everard, is buried in Sanford, ME. My mother, Charlotte, is buried in the Goodwin family plot in the Portland Rd. cemetery in So. Berwick, ME. Actually the cemetery in on Agamenticus Rd. (My cousin, Albert Pike, is currently the head of the cemeteries in So. Berwick so getting permission to bury her there wasn't too hard.) Believe it or not there are 9 or so cemeteries in So. Berwick. There are a lot of Butlers buried in So. Berwick in another cemetery. They are also our ancestors. That is located behind the Free Will Baptist Church in So. Berwick.

The second child of Virgil & Marion is Arlo Newcomb Horr. He married Ruth Powers. They met at the Maine School for the death. Uncle Arlo was able to speak and hear for a few years but had a child hood disease that left him unable to hear and thus speak. He tried to speak and I could actually carry on a short conversation with him. All my Dad's family knew how to use sign language at one point. Uncle Arlo and Aunt Ruth had 6 children. (1)Arlo Gordon Horr is married and lives in Sanford, ME. He has a grown son & daughter. (2)
Jean married Donal McIntire. I don't know where they are, I think somewhere in the So. Berwick area. (3) Janice Horr - I don't know where she is now. (4) Judy Horr - I don't know about here either. I understand one or both of the girls is in Nevada. (5) Laurence - He died as a young man. I don't know all the circumstances. I think he lived a rather wild life. (6) Dorothy - Unfortunately I don't have any information on her either. Both Uncle Arlo & Aunt Ruth are deceased.

Actually I'm not sure if Aunt Dot or Uncle Arlo is second in line but it probably doesn't matter.

The third child is Dorothy. She married Raymond Brown. They had two sons, Virgil (called Sonny) and Herbert. Both boys are deceased. Virgil (Sonny) married a lady named Ruth and they had 4 or 5 children. Last I knew these folks lived in the Nashua, NH area. Aunt Dot lives in Langdon Place in Dover. It is a assisted living home for senior citizens. My Uncle Ray is deceased. Aunt Dot was the aunt that we could convince to go on rides with us at the fair, and take part in all kinds of things that the other adults wouldn't do. When we were kids we thought she was great. When we grew up we realized that Aunt Dot never really did grow up but she was a lot of fun when we were kids.

The fourth child of Virgil & Marion was Laurence Horr. He died at age 16. According to the family he liked to "hop" on freight trains and the last time he didn't make it.

The fifth child was Mary Horr. She married James Crawford. They adoped one son John James Crawford. Both Aunt Mary & Uncle Jimmy are deceased. Johnny lived in FL.

The sixth child is Carey Horr. (Mary & Carey were twins.) Carey married Gordon Raitt. They had one child Marcia. Marcia married Albert Pike. They both live in So. Berwick. Albert works at the McCooey Funeral home. Marcia & Albert have 3 children, Peter (married to Robin), Timothy (married to Dianna) and Laurie still single. Uncle Gordon is deceased. Aunt Carey lives in senior housing in So. Berwick and is still active in So. Berwick Baptist Church. I am probably closest to Marcia of all my cousins. She and Albert are really nice people.

The seventh child is Cecil. He married Minnie Blaisdell. They had three children. Sharon married John Stuart. They live across the street from where my grandparents lived. They have two children, Scott lives in the mid-west and Libby lives in So. Berwick area. Uncle Cecil's son, Leslie, is now Leslie Evans. He dropped the Horr name. He married a very nice girl, Sheila, and they have two children Rachel & Matthew. Both are college age. The youngest of Uncle Cecil's children is Noreen. She is married and lives on the Cape. They have two boys. Uncle Cecil lives with Sharon & John.

Uncle Cecil took over the print shop when my grandfather died. My grandfather owned the So. Berwick Chronicle Print Shop for many years. He printed a weekly newspaper and also did many printing jobs. His was the last hand set print shop in Maine and probably all of New England. Thursday was paper day and all the family in the area gathered to get the paper printed and mailed out. The print shop was in the basement of my grandparent's house.

The eighth child is Eleanor. She never had any children. She married Thomas Piekielniak after a 20 year courtship. Uncle Tommy died and then she married Henry Mayrand. He owned Mayrand's Highway Furniture on the Dover Point Rd. in Dover. Uncle Henry is also deceased. Aunt Eleanor now lives in Sun City, Arizona. I still hear from her each Christmas.

The ninth child is Kathleen. She married George Blaisdell. (He and Aunt Minnie were brother & sister.) This is probably how Aunt Kathy & Uncle George met. They have one son Terry. Terry and his wife, Betty Jo, now live in the house that once belonged to my grandparents. They have obviously done some remodeling. Uncle George is deceased. Aunt Kathy lives on Old Mill Rd. a few houses away from Terry and Betty Jo. Terry and Betty Jo have two grown boys, one is married and has either one or two children. Terry is the other cousin that is think is pretty special.

That is my grandfather's family in a nutshell. There is a Horr family reunion each year. One year it is in So. Berwick and the next year in the Waterford/Norway/Lovell, ME. We have a lot of relatives in that area. My grandfather, Virgil, came from that area.

My grandmother, Marion, came from the Eastport, Me area. I never met any of her family. Supposedly her family never approved of her marrying my grandfather. Her family apparently was a little more well to do than my grandfather's family. One of my grandmother's uncles was a judge in Eastport, ME. Some day I want to go to Eastport and explore the family roots in that area.

My grandmother died when I was 9 or so years old. She is buried in So. Berwick. Grampa later married a woman named Carrie. She died before he did. I'm not sure where she is buried. When I married Don in 1958 Grampa Horr was single still going strong. He had a reputation for driving pretty fast. He was quite a guy.

I would be happy to send you a copy of what I have on the Horr family. If you contact Scott he may have a more extensive list of relatives. He is interested in genealogy. I don't think he has spent as much time on my dad's family as he has on the Wilsons and some of my mother's family.

I would like to have or take the time to really research the family history. I'm sure it would take a fair amount of time. It would also probably be pretty interesting. You never know what you are going to uncover when you get into family history.

      Hope this is helpful.

      Love,

      Aunt Nancy

      Keith,
      Here is what I know.
Virgil L Horr was Grampa's father and owned and operated the print shop in S. Berwick.
Arlo was Grampa Horr's brother. He was a deaf mute as a result of childhood illness, I think it was the whooping cough. All of the family learned to sign to communicate with Arlo. He has a son Arlo Jr., my cousin who still live in S. Berwick or somewhere nearby.

Ruth Horr was Uncle Arlo's wife. She was also a deaf mute. She and Uncle Arlo were very nice people; they earned a living and raised a family; son Arlo Jr and I think a daughter, but I do not recall her name.

Henry G Horr: I heard him referred to as Uncle Henry by several of the family over the years. Don't know if this is the same person, but he may have been Virgil's brother.

Lawrence Henry Horr: I think this was Henry's son. The family referred to him often.

Marion Newcomb Horr: This was one of Virgil's wives. The Newcomb family was discussed at times.

Mary Horr: This was one of Grampa's three sisters; Mary, Karey and of course flakey Aunt Dot. Mary was married to Jimmy

Minnie Blaisdell Horr: This was Uncle Cecile's wife. Uncle Cecile is the youngest of the brothers. This is Sharon's dad who is still alive and living with Sharon and her husband John Steuart in S. Berwick. Aunt Minnie was the sister of Uncle George (Blaisdell). Uncle George died several years ago, but was maried to Aunt Katy who is alive and living with her son; my cousin, Terry Blaisdell in South Berwick in the house that Virgil Horr owned and was where the print shop was located and produced the weekly newspaper; "South Berwick Cronicle" for more than 30 years.

Don't really know of the others. I may have heard of them over the years, but cannot place them.
Aunt Nancy probably has more information. Send her an e-mail and she may be able to fill in some blanks. I'll copy her on this note. Talked with her last week when Mom and I were driving to San Diego. I know she was having problems with her internet, but we'll see if it gets through.

Hope all is going well with you. Will try to catch up with you this weekend.
      Love,
      Dad
