      Obituary: James Luther Hoar
      contributor: Richard LaBrosse
      c: 1938
Funeral rites for James Luther Hoar were conducted by the Rev. David Johnson at the home Tuesday afternoon and at the Methodist Episcopal church. Interment took place in Woodlawn cemetery.
Messrs. Jos. Stoll, Byron McDougal, John Flatley, Hugh Henry, D.C. Elliott and Nells Nelson bearing the casket. The many beautiful floral tributes were in charge of members from the Royal Neighbor lodge. Mrs. Benson Schaub rendered two solos.
Mr. Hoar was born in Restigoche County, New Brunswick, Canada on July 1, 1850 and was therefore nearing his 87th birthday. His marriage to Miss Mary Dickie took place in Canada on July 6, 1881, and they came to Wisconsin that year.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter Lillian, Mrs. William Swienke of Chicago, four sons, Edward A. at home, William E. and James A. Michigan. A son and a daughter passed away in early childhood. Two grandchildren, Geneva and Earl Hoar, Jr., of Oconto, a brother Edward aged 96 and a sister Mrs. James Hamilton of Canada also survive.
Mr. Hoar had been ill for about two months with complications due to his advanced years, and death came to relieve him from his sufferings at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the city hospital. The deceased man was well versed in woodcraft, having worked on river drives and in lumber mills all his life. He was employed by the Falls Manufacturing Company for many years.
