Obiyuary:
Norma A. Hoard, 91, of 23 W. Third St., formerly of 173 Bowen St., died at 8:28 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 28, 2003) in the Lutheran Retirement Home.
A Jamestown native, she was born April 16, 1912, the daughter of A. Oscar and Anny Nystrom Sundean.
She was a 1931 graduate of Jamestown High School and had been employed by the former G. C. Murphey and Grant's Department Stores as a clerk. She was a member of The Salvation Army and its Ladies Aide and Evangeline Circle. Her other memberships included Home Organ Club. North Main Sewing Guild, Mozart club and the former Diana Lodge. She was a former member of the First Church of God.
She loved music and playing the organ. She showed this love having served as church organist at both The Salvation Army and First Church of God. She will be remembered as a very giving person who always took the time to acknowledge her family and friends on special occasions with a card of note.
She is survived by a son, Lawrence Hoard Jr. of Westfield, Pa.; three grandchildren: Kim Sweet of Bemus Point, Kristen Carnovale of Macon, Ga., and Daniel Hoard of Cincinnati; two stepgrandchildren: Kevin Dyer of Fairmont, W. Va., and Lisa Christ of Jamestown; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Delbert Sundean of Clearwater, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hoard Sr., whom she married Oct. 28, 1933, and who died Aug. 19, 1988; two brothers, Evert and Herbert Sundean; and a great-grnddaughter, Katy Sweet.
The funeral will be held at noon Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas A. Sweet, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, and Major Les Bussey of The Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery.
