At the bottom of this stone is engraved "erected by Mrs. Manning Cleveland". Manning Cleveland was a wealthy young man from Poughkeepsie, who eloped on Oct 3, 1903 with one of his father's servants, Nora Orr, a marriage his father appears to have tried to have annulled [New York Herald, Oct 22, 1903]. He failed, and the Cleveland's went on to have at least 6 children. Edward and Mary Hoar had a daughter, Hanora, the same age as Mrs Nora Cleveland. The 1903 article about the elopement mentions that Nora Orr Cleveland had a sister, Mrs Gilbert Pugsley of Fishkill Landing. The side of this stone includes the name of Mary Pugsley, who died in 1902.
