George Fletcher Carpenter, of Fowler, N. Y., was horn in
Johnstown, N. Y., 1823. His parents were Stephen Carpenter,
born in Johnstown, Sept. 2(i, 179!), and Ann Eliza Ohnstead Carpenter,
born in Johnstown, Nov. IT, 1795. Mr. Carpenter was
educated in Hailesboro, N. Y? and married in 1851 to Louisa D.
Hoard. Four children are living, Lilla, Jennie, Minnie and
Arthur. Mr. Carpenter came to Fowler when fourteen years of
age and worked for some time in a saw mill at Antwerp. Next
engaged in the grocery business at Shingle Creek, now known as
Spragueville. Mr. Carpenter's wife died in 1898. He is now
and has been for some time engaged in the care of bees, devoting
much time to their study.
