Deceased Name: Earl C. Yeager
Army veteran, VFW member known for hat collection
Earl C. Yeager, 77, of Washington, formerly of Oregon and Texas, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 6, 2011, in Washington Hospital.
He was born August 18, 1933, in Graysville, W.Va., a son of the late William and Virginia Horr Yeager.
Mr. Yeager served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a life member of Claysville Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a welder and truck driver for Colonial Bronze and was a cook and part owner of the former Family Diner in Wolfdale.
Mr. Yeager collected hundreds of hats and wore a different one each day. He especially enjoyed deer hunting, raising horses and growing vegetables. He also enjoyed watching football on TV.
In June 1953, he was married to Betty Jean Hayden, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Debbie Yeager of Washington; five sons, William, Donald and Michael Yeager, all of Texas, Sam Yeager of McDonald and Greg Yeager of Mississippi; three brothers, Chuck Robinson of Washington, Cliff Robinson of the state of Washington and Kenny Yeager of Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Robert Robinson.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Hummell and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 10, with Pastor Michael Roach officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 175 and the U.S. Army.
