  [[ Obituary: RUPPERT, Emily (Hunter) 72, of Newbury, MA, died peacefully at home on Plum Island on July 24, 2012. Emily was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Emily Davis and J. Paul Hunter Jr. of Nashville, TN. She was raised in Birmingham, AL and graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1958. She received a BA from Lindenwood College in Missouri and an MSW with honors from George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. As a young social worker in Missouri, Emily created the very successful Foster Community Program, which became a model for helping long-institutionalized adults transition to homes in the community. She studied various theories of psychology, including Transactional Analysis (TA), eventually obtaining Clinical Teaching Membership in the International TA Association. Integrating TA and Gestalt with more traditional theory, she established a psychotherapy and training practice in Milwaukee, WI, honing her belief in the power of groups, as well as individual and family therapy. She presented workshops for professionals and non-professionals around the country. In 1977 she moved to Boston, establishing a practice and expanding her training program to include professional training in England and Holland. She loved the natural beauty of New England, especially the marshes of Plum Island, and enjoyed traveling, dancing , meeting new people, and photography. Emily leaves a brother J. Paul Hunter III and his wife Frances of Birmingham, step-brothers Wayne Hoar and Chris Hoar, step-sister Derrel Hoar Sundock, niece Margaret Hunter Murray, and nephews James Hunter, Michael Hunter, and William Hunter. She is remembered fondly by countless friends, colleagues and clients for her warmth, humor, joie de vivre, sharp insights, and creativity. Burial is private and a memorial celebration of her life is planned for November 10, 2pm, at the First Religious Society (Unitarian Universalist), 26 Pleasant Street, Newburyport, MA.
